Assessment Explanation:

|
Being able to say the alphabet is the first step in preparing children for reading. The next step is recognizing letters of the alphabet. Children who have not yet learned to read, or who are in the early stages of learning to read, usually recognize lower case letters easier than upper case letters. Being able to recognize letters prepares children for learning letter sounds, which is the next step in learning to read.
