Why MyKidCan.com Was Created

Thomas M. Wolfe, Ph.D. is the founder and CEO of MyKidCan.com. He has worked as a school psychologist, serving both public and private schools of South Central Minnesota during the past six years. During the five years prior to his service in Minnesota schools, he worked in several mental health clinics as a clinical psychologist in Minnesota and Utah while completing his doctoral studies. In 1997, he was awarded a two year federal research grant to study the impact of parental employment stability on the intellectual development of kids attending Head Start in Utah.

It was while working on the Head Start project that Dr. Wolfe noted that the cultural trend of having two parents working outside of the home leaves very little time for parents to deal with everyday parenting challenges. The time factor poses an even bigger problem when parents are faced with raising children or adolescents experiencing behavioral, learning, or mental health problems.

As his career progressed and Dr. Wolfe began to spend more time working in schools, he observed that educators experience a similar dilemma. Teachers are faced with shrinking financial resources but increasing demands and expectations in terms of student performance. This predicament becomes even more problematic when trying to educate students experiencing learning, behavioral, or emotional difficulties that are interfering with their ability to learn.

An obvious response to this cultural trend is to give parents and teachers easy access to behavioral tools so they can make the best use out of the limited time they have with their children and students. In response to this need, MyKidCan.com was created. Now, teachers and parents can have easy access to behavioral tools and resources needed to help kids lead happier, more productive lives at school and home.
